Tissue Paper Portrait

This is a portrait piece is created during my time in six form. For my second year of six form, I dedicated my time to creating portrait work. The reason why I designed my portrait work this way is because, when I was using the PhotoShop editing software, I discovered the posterize setting. This setting allows a photo to be broken down into colours and layers. So for example, if I set the posterize setting to 20, there would be a total of 20 different shades of colours. Its also important to know that, its alot easier to see each individual shade when you make a photo just black and white. So I made the original photo black and white, set the posterize setting to 15 and printed off the original image with not editing and the posterized image.

When it comes to using tissue paper, this idea came about due to wanting to use something else apart of traditional media tools such as pencil and paint. Tissue paper allowed me to layer tissue paper onto one another to show lighter and darker tones to show the direction of the lighting and the shape of the portrait. Another reason to why i decided to use tissue paper is due to the fact, I wanted each of my portrait works to have a unique media material associted to it to make each one stand out. As well as that, tissue paper gave me the oppotunity to make my work 3D while being on a simple piece of paper, this was done by molding the tissue paper into shapes such as balls and long tubes. Overall using tissue paper made this art piece stand out compared to my other portrait pieces and allowed me to explour different ways of creating an art piece.
